In my suitcase for 7 days

On excursions, it helps to have a 1.5-litre insulated bottle for water.
Spare camera batteries.
Face cloths.
Clothespins for clothes.
Sunglasses.
Earplugs in case your room is poorly located on the property.
A hat or head scarf as protection against sunstroke.
Powdered sports drink to rehydrate.
1 small inner bag for each passenger, to hold:
- Cash
- Traveller's cheques
- Passports
- Boarding passes
- Credit cards
- Personal phone numbers in case of emergency
1 beach bag that folds easily into the suitcase.
1 repair kit, available at Dollarama or an optician (screws and screwdriver).
1 dry cloth and eyeglass cleaner.
1 bottle stopper, available at the SAQ, in case you want to keep the bottle of wine you buy.

A first-aid kit

- Antibiotic ointment
- Ear and eye drops
- Toothache remedy
- An assortment of bandages and plasters
- Tylenol to bring down the fever from sunburn: 1 tablet before bed
- A remedy for diarrhea, stomach aches, nausea and constipation
- Good-quality lip balm
- Benadryl for mild allergies
- Sun creams (don't be afraid to use a high-SPF cream)
- 1 tube of SPF 30 (body)
- 1 tube of face cream, SPF 25 minimum
- 1 tube of SPF 15 (for the last days in the sun)
- 1/2 bottle of laundry detergent

Her suitcase

3 pairs of bermudas or shorts.
3 T-shirts.
3 evening outfits.
1 long-sleeved wool jacket.
1 pair of long casual pants.
3 swimsuits and something to wear over the swimsuit for lunch, plus your underwear.
3 camisoles to wear with shorts or bermudas.
Comfortable walking shoes, evening shoes and beach sandals that stay on well.
1 long pyjama, since sunburn makes you feel chilly.
Inexpensive costume jewellery, in case it gets stolen.
Cosmetics and a hair dryer (if not provided in your room).
Sunglasses.
A mini evening purse that can hold the room key.
1 lipstick and a little money.
Photocopies of all important documents, to put in the suitcase:
- Traveller's cheque numbers
- Passport and credit card numbers
- Insurance policy numbers, with the numbers to call if needed
- Phone numbers of people to contact in case of emergency
- Calling card number
- Serial numbers of the 35mm camera and any other valuables
- Put your name and address inside the suitcase
- 1 deck of playing cards in case of bad weather
- A list of email addresses

His suitcase

2 pairs of clean long pants.
2 collared polo shirts (for "smart casual" restaurants) or shirts.
3 T-shirts.
Beach sandals, evening shoes and walking shoes.
3 pairs of shorts or bermudas.
2 swimsuits.
1 warm sweater for the evening.
Sunglasses.
Toiletries (razor, etc.)

In the carry-on bag

Pack what you need for one night, all jewellery, valuable electronics, photocopies of official documents, at least 1 of the 2 swimsuits and prescription medication.
Keep a piece of bubble wrap to carry bottles of alcohol during the trip.
Prepare a small bag of medication and put it in the carry-on:
- 1 small pack of tissues
- 1 small pack of wet wipes, a few Gravol, a few Imodium
- 1 large Ziploc bag (nausea…)
- Tylenol
Something to clear the sinuses (Dristan spray or Aerius) in case cabin pressure gives you a headache.
