Partez en Voyage is a travel agency in La Prairie, on Montréal's South Shore, with more than 20 OPC-certified advisors serving clients across Québec. Sea and river cruises are one of our specialties: we compare cruise lines, itineraries and cabins for you, then book your trip and follow up before, during and after your voyage.

We work with MSC, Celebrity, Disney Cruise Line and other cruise lines. Here are the answers to the questions our clients ask us most often.

Choosing your cruise

What is the difference between a sea cruise and a river cruise?

A sea cruise takes place on large ships with restaurants, shows, pools and activities for all ages, with several days at sea between ports. A river cruise takes place on smaller boats that follow a river, with a stop almost every day in the heart of a city and a more intimate atmosphere.

How do I choose the right cruise line?

The right choice depends on your profile: a family with children, a couple, a group of friends or a traveller who prefers a quieter trip. An advisor compares cruise lines based on your budget, dates, ship style, food and included activities, then suggests two or three suitable options.

What are the cabin types and which should I choose?

There are generally four main categories: inside (no window), ocean view, balcony and suite. The inside cabin is the most economical, while the balcony is often preferred on scenic itineraries such as Alaska or the fjords. The cabin's location on the ship also affects comfort.

Is a cruise a good idea for a first trip?

Yes. A cruise lets you unpack once while visiting several destinations. For a first experience, we recommend a 7-day itinerary, a ship that matches your style and an advisor who explains boarding, excursions and possible onboard charges.

Can you cruise with children?

Yes. Many cruise lines offer kids' clubs, family activities and connecting cabins. Disney Cruise Line is designed for families, and MSC and other cruise lines also have children's programs. We help you choose based on your children's ages.

Do people get seasick on a cruise?

On large modern ships, the motion is generally barely noticeable. Choosing a cabin in the middle of the ship on a lower deck, and an itinerary with calm waters, helps sensitive travellers. Talk to your advisor or pharmacist before departure.

When and where to go

What is the best time for a Caribbean cruise?

High season generally runs from mid-December to April, with dry, sunny weather. Hurricane season runs from June to November: prices drop, but the risk of itinerary changes goes up. Suitable travel insurance is strongly recommended then.

When is the best time for an Alaska cruise?

The Alaska cruise season runs from about May to September. May and June are drier, July and August are warmer, and September often has lower prices. Glaciers and wildlife can be seen throughout the season.

What is the best season for the Mediterranean?

The main season runs from April to October. May, June, September and October are often preferred for pleasant temperatures and smaller crowds than in July and August.

Can I take a cruise without leaving Québec?

Yes. Cruises on the St. Lawrence leave from Montréal or Québec City for the Maritimes and New England, mostly in late summer and fall, the foliage season. Other cruises require a flight to the departure port, for example in Florida, Barcelona or Vancouver.

Are there river cruises in Europe, and who are they for?

Yes, on the Rhine, the Danube, the Rhône, the Seine or the Douro, among others. They suit travellers who enjoy culture, food and visiting a city every day without long days at sea. Christmas markets in December and the spring-to-fall seasons are very popular.

Do you offer Disney cruises?

Yes. We book Disney Cruise Line cruises. For details on Walt Disney World, Disneyland and current promotions, see our Disney page.

Budget, booking and protection

What is included in the price of a cruise?

The price generally includes the cabin, meals in the main restaurants, onboard entertainment and use of the ship's facilities. Drinks, excursions, gratuities, Wi-Fi and specialty restaurants are often extra, depending on the cruise line and package. We give you the complete total before you book.

How much does a cruise cost?

The price varies with the cruise line, length, cabin, destination and time of year. Ask us for a quote for your dates and budget: we compare several options and show you the final price with taxes, port fees and gratuities.

Do I need a passport for a cruise?

In most cases, yes. A valid passport is strongly recommended, and entry requirements vary by itinerary. Your advisor checks the documents required for your cruise before departure.

Is travel insurance necessary?

We recommend it. It can cover cancellation, interruption, medical expenses and baggage. A medical emergency on board or abroad can be very expensive without coverage.

How do I book with Partez en Voyage?

Contact us by phone at 514-556-3552, through the form on the Contact page, or book an appointment with an advisor. We can be reached Monday to Friday, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., at 303 Taschereau Blvd. in La Prairie.

Why book through a licensed travel agency?

Partez en Voyage operates under the Voyages Synergia OPC permit 702703. A certified advisor compares offers, supports you if anything changes and answers your questions before, during and after your trip. Eligible purchases made through a licensed agency may also be protected by Québec's Fonds d'indemnisation des clients des agents de voyages (FICAV).

Do you organize group cruises?

Yes. For a group of friends, a family, a team or an organized group, we can book blocks of cabins and help you coordinate the trip. See our Groups page for available departures.
